Send SMS for free to dialog Sri Lanka numbers from your email

This is not an ideal way to send SMS but it works, its easy and its free! Well not 100% free because to activate it the SMS receiver must dial 711. That will cost around Rs 3/-.

next go to your email program and create a new message.
in the 'To' field put the email address(es) in the following format

77xxxxxxx@dialog.lk

(this is the dialog number of the receiver followed by '@dialog.lk')

in the 'Subject' field put your message (this should be less than 120 characters)
leave message body blank
send the message
the receiver will get the message immediately.

This is an easy way to send short SMS alerts for free to a group of people. I found this method out while referring to the 'Pocket Office' service offered by dialog.

If anyone knows of a better way to send SMS for free to dialog please let me know. I tried out different services available online but none of them worked.

    Use wow sms.http://www.wow.lk.Its pretty cool. You need to register 1st and can send upto 5 smses to dialog phones per day

    tnx Sasanga, but wow.lk wont be useful if u want to send more than 5 sms on a single day. the above method allows you to do that. you should be able to send SMS in a better format via email if Dialog opened up their SMS gateway for emails.

    Mobitel offers the service for free though.

    I dont think the method u mentioned is free cz from what i heard they charge 50cents per incoming sms. Im not really sure.U better check on that. Also Mobitel used to give the same thing free of charge 9471xxxxxxx@sms.mobitel.lk (I think mayuonline uses the same thing) but apparently it doesnt work anymore

    To activate it the 'SMS receiver' must dial 711. If he/she hasn't activated it won't work.

    I guess it is not working now.. by any chance u know how to send sms to srilanka mobile from web and person replying (from srilanka) to it.
    Me reside in India and it costs lot to send international number..

    This is working only if the text message remain within 120 characters. once it goes beyond 120 it doesn't work.. i tried several times and at last that is what i have got.... but anyway thanks Harini... coz it is useful.

    Does any one know how to send SMS to mobitel through email as on dialog explained by Harini? 94number@sms.mobitel.lk does not work.

    Still does. If it doesn't, dial 711 and check your settings.

    As what have you said its working so it doesn't matter anyway if it is not ideal. The most important thing is that its free! And and that someone can do it in easier way.! You've provided as so informative way of sending Free SMS or free text. This is such a big help, a bunch of thanks to you :)
